About the Christian Church

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is: 

A CHRIST-CENTERED FAITH COMMUNITY of ministry partners working cooperatively with other churches and faith groups to bring Christ's compassion, healing, and empowerment to people in every corner of the world who suffer as the result of natural or man made disasters, oppression, or injustice.    Over 200 missionaries working in 90 countries reach out every day to teach, to serve in hospitals, in agricultural development, in advocacy for human rights and in working for peace. 

A CHRIST-CENTERED FAITH COMMUNITY of over 750,000 unique and gifted people sharing in ministry through over 4000 congregations in the United States and Canada.   Together, these congregations live in a covenant relationship as one Church (The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in North America) and, in addition to the global outreach described above, they provide ministry to young people through 18 colleges and universities, four seminaries, and 65 campus ministers serving on various campuses across the country. They produce a beautiful monthly magazine and operate an excellent publishing ministry. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Disciples are a family of congregations doing together what they cannot do alone and working hard to nurture and support one another. 

A CHRIST-CENTERED FAITH COMMUNITY of over 20,000 growing and committed people sharing ministry in 70 congregations across the seven county metropolitan area.   Together, these congregations live in a covenant relationship as one Church (called the Christian Church of Greater Kansas City) and, doing together what they cannot do alone, they operate a retreat and conference center near Bonner Springs, Kansas, and they serve the inner city through the ministries. Together, they touch thousands of lives daily with the love of Jesus Christ.   The Christian Church of Greater Kansas City has offices in Mission, Kansas. 

A CHRIST-CENTERED FAITH COMMUNITY whose founders almost 200 years ago dreamed of a church whose members were united not by a particular denominational creed or theological formulation but by the simple affirmation of Jesus as Son of the Living God.  They dreamed of a non hierarchical church where members were granted the freedom and the sacred responsibility to prayerfully explore the meaning of that affirmation in their own lives while being nurtured and challenged by one another in the Christian spiritual life. 

A CHRIST-CENTERED FAITH COMMUNITY which focuses its corporate weekly worship around the loaf and the cup of the Lord's Table, the definitive symbol and sacrament of Christ's welcome, joyfully extended to all people in the grace of a forgiving God who desires to give us a share in the Divine life. 

A CHRIST-CENTERED FAITH COMMUNITY which treasures the Bible as an inspired witness to the acts of God in history, especially the gracious act of God in Jesus Christ, and which continues to be a living source of Divine wisdom, inspiration, and truth. 

A CHRIST-CENTERED FAITH COMMUNITY at 9900 North Oak Trafficway which is happy to welcome all people who hunger for a spiritual "home,"  for an authentic and life-giving relationship with Jesus Christ, for a place where doubts, questions, and struggles are seen as integral to a life of faith even as are joy and confidence and peace.
